“Why Fireworks Can Be Bad for Our Brains” by Dr. Austin Perlmutter (2025):

🎆 Fireworks may look fun—but they come with hidden health risks.

While fireworks are a big part of celebrations, research shows they release tiny toxic particles (PM2.5) that pollute the air we breathe—up to 600% more than usual after a display.

🧠 What does this mean for your brain?

  • These particles can enter your lungs, bloodstream, and even your brain.

  • Just one day of exposure can reduce memory, focus, and mood.

  • It’s linked to more depression, irritability, and even increased violence.

🌬️ Why it’s a big deal:

Air pollution from fireworks is often invisible, so we don’t notice the damage. But it causes inflammation in the brain, and worsens both mental and physical health.

🎇 What you can do:

  • Stand further away and stay upwind if you’re attending a display

  • Use eco-friendly alternatives like glow sticks or drone shows

  • Be mindful of how it affects sensitive people (kids, animals, trauma survivors)

💡 Bottom line:

Fireworks aren’t harmless fun—they come with a cost to our brains and bodies. It’s worth thinking about how we celebrate and the long-term impact on our wellbeing.
